‘Prachuap Port’ Appoints New Managing Director to Accelerate Waterborne Logistics Strategy

Anuwat Chaikittivanich Sets Sights on Developing a Logistics Hub for Industrial and Project Cargo

Prachuap Port Company Limited (PPC) has introduced its new Managing Director, Mr. Anuwat Chaikittivanich, as the company moves forward with a strategic shift from its traditional customer base in the steel industry toward becoming a waterborne logistics hub capable of handling a wider range of cargo, particularly oversized and heavy cargo. The company also plans to enhance its port and back-of-port services to strengthen connectivity between Thailand’s industrial sector and international markets.

Prachuap Port Company Limited (PPC), a private international commercial deep-sea port under the Sahaviriya Steel Industries Group, has announced the appointment of Mr. Anuwat Chaikittivanich as its new Managing Director. Mr. Anuwat brings more than 10 years of experience in management and in driving logistics strategies for the Sahaviriya Steel Industries Group and SVL Group.

The leadership transition comes at a time when Thailand’s industrial and logistics sectors are facing new challenges, with businesses seeking more efficient and cost-effective transportation options capable of handling increasingly complex cargo requirements. In response, PPC aims to expand its role from a port primarily serving the steel industry into a waterborne logistics and Project Cargo hub capable of meeting the needs of a broader range of industries.

Mr. Anuwat Chaikittivanich, Managing Director of Prachuap Port Company Limited, said that his key mission following his appointment is to leverage the company’s infrastructure, experience, and back-of-port facilities to develop logistics services that address the needs of both existing customers and new industrial sectors.

The company’s operations will be developed around three core business units: Blue Transport, covering waterborne transportation and cargo-handling services; Blue Offshore, providing services related to offshore activities; and Blue Conservation, focusing on marine environmental management and conservation. Together, these business units are intended to create an integrated service system connecting port operations, back-of-port facilities, and onward transportation.

“Our goal is to transform PPC’s existing capabilities into new options for our customers, both in the steel industry and in new customer segments. This is particularly important for businesses that require the transportation of oversized cargo, which demands strong infrastructure, specialized expertise, and rigorous safety management,” Mr. Anuwat said.

From a Commercial Cargo Port to a Project Cargo Hub

One of the markets PPC is focusing on is Project Cargo, referring to oversized and heavy cargo that requires specialized transportation systems and more complex management than conventional cargo.

PPC previously provided cargo-handling services for a large electrical transformer in 2022, which was subsequently transported to Ratchaburi Province. In 2026, the company also accommodated the import and handling of wind turbine equipment and components, including oversized and heavy components. These included wind turbine blades measuring more than 90 meters in length and drive train components weighing nearly 100 tonnes. These operations demonstrate the port’s capability to handle cargo requiring a high level of engineering planning and safety management.

The challenge extends beyond unloading cargo from vessels onto shore. It also involves transporting the cargo from the port through community areas to its final destination. PPC therefore places strong emphasis on end-to-end transportation management, from briefing transport operators on applicable regulations and planning transportation routes to determining appropriate operating hours.

For the transportation of oversized cargo, operations are scheduled during nighttime hours, from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m., to minimize impacts on local traffic and residents. PPC also coordinates with relevant authorities, including local administrative authorities and the Highway Police, to facilitate transportation and maintain safety throughout the entire journey.

Strengths Built on Infrastructure and Back-of-Port Facilities

PPC is located in Bang Saphan District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, and benefits from its position as a major private commercial cargo port on the western coast of the Gulf of Thailand. The port has a water depth of approximately 15 meters (MSL) and is capable of accommodating vessels of up to approximately 110,000 deadweight tonnes (DWT).

Beyond its berth-side capabilities, the company’s back-of-port facilities represent another important foundation for business development. These facilities can support cargo handling, temporary storage and warehousing, as well as connections to marine transportation and other logistics services. This enables PPC to identify opportunities to further develop more comprehensive, end-to-end logistics solutions.

This direction is aligned with the changing needs of Thailand’s industrial sector, which increasingly requires transportation solutions for a diverse range of cargo—from conventional industrial products to machinery, energy equipment, and large-scale investment projects. Such projects require ports capable of handling specialized cargo and providing dedicated management systems.

Strengthening Safety While Growing Together with Local Communities

Mr. Anuwat added that the expansion of logistics services today cannot focus solely on transportation efficiency. It must go hand in hand with safety and strong relationships with local communities, particularly when oversized cargo must be transported from the port through public roads.

PPC therefore places strong emphasis on traffic planning, communication with transport operators, and strict enforcement of driving standards. These measures are designed to minimize impacts on local communities, reduce the risks of accidents and traffic disruptions, and ensure that business expansion progresses in harmony with surrounding communities.

“Beyond our logistics expertise, it is essential to build confidence among both business operators and local communities. The transportation of oversized cargo requires careful planning and close supervision to ensure that our customers’ operations proceed smoothly and that business growth can take place alongside sustainable community development,” Mr. Anuwat said.

The appointment of the new Managing Director therefore represents more than a change in corporate leadership. It signals a new strategic direction for PPC, as the company seeks to evolve from a “commercial cargo port” into waterborne logistics infrastructure capable of supporting a broader range of industries.

By leveraging its strategic location, infrastructure, back-of-port facilities, and experience in managing industrial cargo, PPC aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Thailand’s business sector and enhance its connectivity with international markets.
